Nikki Haley Withdraws From 2024 Presidential Race, Reports Confirm

Republican former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley appears to be on the brink of concluding her presidential campaign after experiencing a series of second-place finishes on Super Tuesday.

According to reports from The Wall Street Journal and other news outlets, Haley is expected to announce her decision to end her campaign at 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday, as per sources familiar with her plans.

This development would leave former President Donald Trump as the sole major candidate in contention for the GOP nomination. Haley's performance on Super Tuesday was relatively lackluster, with losses to Trump in 14 out of the 15 voting states, except for Vermont, as per Business Insider citing Wall Street Journal Report.

Prior to Super Tuesday, Haley had garnered a total of 24 delegates across six primaries in various states and US territories, including only three from her home state of South Carolina. In contrast, Trump had accumulated 122 delegates during the same period.

After narrowly losing to Trump in New Hampshire's primary, Haley expressed her intention to persist with her campaign as long as she continued to make progress in each state. However, her inability to meet her targeted threshold of 43.2% of the vote in South Carolina indicated a setback.

Despite her initial commitment to continue her campaign through Super Tuesday, Haley's prospects for securing the nomination dwindled further as Trump continued to dominate the primaries and accumulate delegates, as reported by WSJ.

Earlier in the race, Haley's strategy relied on outlasting Trump, hoping that his legal challenges would force him out of the race. However, with Trump's sustained success in the primaries, coupled with the emergence of his daughter-in-law in a potential leadership role within the Republican National Committee, Haley's chances of securing the nomination waned.

Considering her prior criticism of Trump, Haley is unlikely to be chosen as his running mate. Instead, potential picks for Trump's vice-presidential candidate include Sen. Tim Scott, Vivek Ramaswamy, or South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, as suggested by Trump himself.
