Missing Indian Student In US Confirmed Dead; Body Found On Purdue University Campus
Officials have confirmed the tragic death of Neel Acharya, an Indian student studying at Purdue University in Indiana. Neel, pursuing a double major in computer science at the John Martinson Honors College, went missing on Sunday. His body, identified on Purdue's campus, was discovered after his mother, Goury Acharya, made a heartfelt plea on social media. Neel was last seen by an Uber driver near the university.
In an email addressed to the computer science department, Acting CS head Chris Clifton conveyed the heartbreaking news of Neel Acharya's passing. "It is with deep sadness that I share the news of the passing of one of our students, Neel Acharya. My heartfelt condolences go out to his friends, family, and all those impacted," Clifton expressed. Describing Neel as a "driven individual with remarkable academic talent," he remarked on the shocking nature of the loss, emphasizing the significant impact on the university community.

The Purdue Exponent, the university's independent media agency, reported that the computer science department learned of Neel's death through interim department head Chris Clifton. The Consulate General of India in Chicago is providing support to the family during this difficult time.
Tragically, Neel Acharya's death follows a recent incident where an Indian student, Vivek Saini, was brutally attacked in Georgia.
The Consulate General of India in Atlanta condemned the assault and has been assisting Saini's family in repatriating his remains to India. The incidents highlight the importance of safety and support for international students in the United States.
