During the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, Mason was with his father a block away from the finishing line, where the bombing took place. They were waiting for Mason's mother, who participated in the marathon.
Mason's family said the Boston experience had helped Mason stay calm in the subsequent situations of terror and added that it was God's blessing that he was alive.
