Matthew Livelsberger Shot in Head Before Las Vegas Cybertruck Explosion, Sheriff Reports

A Tesla Cybertruck caught fire outside President-elect Donald Trump's Las Vegas hotel, with the occupant suffering a gunshot wound to the head before the explosion. Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill revealed that a handgun was found near the man, identified as Matthew Livelsberger. Authorities suspect the gunshot was self-inflicted.

Las Vegas Cybertruck Incident Involves Gunshot

Livelsberger had a distinguished military career, serving in the Green Berets since 2006. His service included deployments to Afghanistan and assignments in Ukraine, Tajikistan, Georgia, and Congo. He earned two Bronze Stars, one with a valour device, a combat infantry badge, and an Army Commendation Medal with valour. At the time of his death, he was on approved leave.

Explosion Details and Investigation

The truck explosion occurred hours after Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar drove into a crowd in New Orleans' French Quarter on New Year's Day, killing at least 15 people. The FBI initially suspected Jabbar had accomplices but later stated he acted alone. Both incidents are under investigation, but no connection has been established between them.

The FBI conducted law enforcement activity at a Colorado Springs home related to the Las Vegas explosion. However, they have not disclosed further details about this operation. The truck was filled with firework mortars and camp fuel canisters when it exploded, injuring seven bystanders.

Statements from Authorities and Witnesses

Chris Raia, FBI deputy assistant director, confirmed there is no definitive link between the Las Vegas explosion and the New Orleans attack. Video footage showed charred fireworks and explosive devices in the truck bed. The blast shot upwards, leaving the truck bed walls intact.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated on X that "we have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself." He added that all vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion.

Connection to Prominent Figures

Musk recently joined Trump's inner circle. Neither Trump nor Musk was present in Las Vegas during the incident; both attended Trump's New Year's Eve party in South Florida. Authorities have identified who rented the truck using Turo in Colorado but have not released their identity.

Both Livelsberger and Jabbar had spent time at Fort Liberty, formerly Fort Bragg, a major Army base in North Carolina. Despite this shared location, officials confirmed there was no overlap in their assignments at the base.

The investigation continues as authorities piece together details surrounding these events. The focus remains on understanding any potential connections while ensuring public safety.
