Twenty killed, 30 injured in Lahore blast near Punjab CM's residence

The explosion was reportedly heard on Ferozepur Road, near Arfa Karim Towers.

Lahore, July 24: An explosion killed 20 people and injured 30 in the Pakistani city of Lahore, near the residence of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, on Monday, rescue officials said. It was not clear what caused the blast.

"We can confirm that it's an explosion," said Jam Sajjad Hussain, spokesman for the Rescue 1122 service.

The explosion took place at a busy market near the Arfa Karim Software Technology Park. The residence of Shahbaz Sharif, the brother of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, is located about 100 metres from the site.

Rescue teams reached the site of the incident.Nature of blast is still to be ascertained. The explosion reportedly took place when an old building in the area was being demolished.

As per reports, the site was evacuated following the blast.
