What is this 5 BX Plan?

According to the statement by Buckingham Palace, "During The King's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted," highlighted a subsequent diagnostic discovery of a form of cancer.

A schedule of regular treatments has been commenced by His Majesty as advised by doctors, who have also recommended the postponement of public-facing duties. It was also specified in the statement that Charles will "continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual" at this time, expressing gratitude to his medical team for their swift intervention, reported The Independent.

Charles's positivity amid his diagnosis was discussed, along with the rationale for publicly sharing his health condition. "He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible," the statement concluded.

"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer." Reports about his workout routine, referred to as the 5BX plan, consisting of doing five basic exercises twice a day, had circulated before the announcement of the King's cancer diagnosis, as per UK media reports.

  • The 5BX plan, developed by Dr. Bill Organ in the late 1950s for pilots without access to a gym, consists of five basic exercises.

  • The plan comprises six charts with five exercises each, progressively demanding more effort as individuals advance.
  • Chart one involves exercises such as feet astride, arm lifts, bending to touch the floor and stational run.
  • Exercise levels are described based on repetitions and duration, with progression encouraged before moving to the next chart.
  • Charts two to six introduce variations like hand-knee bends, semi-squat jumps, and semi-spread eagle jumps.
  • Prince Harry described in his memoir "Spare" that King Charles III regularly performed half-naked headstands to manage chronic pain from old polo injuries.
  • Queen Camilla revealed in 2020 that the King is an avid walker, often described as "probably the fittest man of his age I know," during an appearance on BBC Radio 5's The Emma Barnett Show.
