Kenya Court Blocks Adani Group's Jomo Kenyatta Airport Lease Deal
In a significant development, Kenya's High Court has temporarily blocked Adani Group's proposed takeover of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), East Africa's largest aviation hub.
The court's order halts Adani's 30-year lease agreement to operate and manage the Nairobi airport.

Kenya Court Blocks Adani Group's Lease - Here's Why
The move comes amid growing opposition from aviation unions and public protests. The Financial Times reported that the court's decision intervenes in Adani Group's ambitious expansion plans in Kenya, which had faced backlash since the proposal was announced in July.
The Kenya Aviation Workers Union voiced strong objections to the takeover, citing concerns about potential job losses and the influx of foreign workers. The union had previously announced a strike, urging the Kenyan government to cancel the deal and protesting the "unlawful intended sale" of JKIA to Adani Airport Holdings, an affiliate of the Indian conglomerate.
The Kenyan government has responded by clarifying that the airport is not being sold but rather considered for a public-private partnership aimed at upgrading the facility. Despite the court's ruling, the future of the proposed deal remains uncertain as the government and Adani Group navigate the legal and political challenges surrounding the agreement.
