Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency Film Release Banned In THIS Country

The much-anticipated film 'Emergency,' directed and produced by Kangana Ranaut, where she also stars as the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is gearing up for its release on January 17. Set against the backdrop of the 1970s, the movie delves into the controversial period of the Emergency declared by Indira Gandhi in 1975. Amidst this, news has surfaced that the movie has faced a ban in Bangladesh, a development that could potentially impact its reception.

The ban in Bangladesh stems from the portrayal of the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the then Prime Minister of Bangladesh, in 1975 by a group of Bangladeshi extremists. Given Rahman's pivotal role in Bangladesh's independence from Pakistan, the film's depiction of his assassination has led to the ban. This decision is believed to be influenced by the currently tense relations between India and Bangladesh.

Initially slated for a September release last year, 'Emergency' encountered delays as the censor board hesitated to grant it a certificate. After some changes were made, the film finally received approval. Kangana Ranaut, who has poured her efforts into this project as both a producer and director, now faces a new challenge with this ban.

The film's ensemble cast includes notable actors like Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, and Satish Kaushik, who have all played significant roles. With its release around the corner, the movie is expected to stir controversy, especially considering its politically charged subject matter.

Given Kangana's reputation for delivering powerful performances, expectations are high for her portrayal of Indira Gandhi. As Kangana Ranaut prepares for her return to the big screen, it will be interesting to see how her journey unfolds, especially given the controversies and trolling she has faced following her recent box office setbacks.
