JD Vance's Past Comments On Less Voting Rights For Childless People Spark Controversy

Republican Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance, already facing backlash for his previous 'childless cat ladies' comment, has ignited further controversy with another resurfaced clip from 2021.

In this video, Vance, speaking at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, suggested that parents should have more voting power than non-parents.

In the address, Vance proposed, "Let's give votes to all children in this country, but let's give control over those votes to the parents of those children. When you go to the polls in this country as a parent, you should have more power - you should have more of an ability to speak your voice in our democratic republic - than people who don't have kids. Let's face the consequences and the reality: If you don't have as much of an investment in the future of this country, maybe you shouldn't get nearly the same voice."

At the time a US Senator, Vance anticipated criticism, saying, "Doesn't this mean that non-parents don't have as much of a voice as parents? Doesn't this mean that parents get a bigger say in how our democracy functions? Yes, absolutely," to the applause of his audience.

Vance, who is now Donald Trump's running mate, has been under fire for his earlier 'childless cat ladies' remark, which insulted Democratic leaders like Vice President Kamala Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

In a Fox News interview with Tucker Carlson on July 29, 2021, JD Vance accused the US government of being controlled by a "dastardly deep state comprised of cat lovers."

Kamala Harris, who was endorsed for the US Presidential race by President Joe Biden after he withdrew, has garnered support from Democrats who view her as a dynamic candidate capable of defeating Donald Trump.
