Israeli Strikes on Gaza Result in 32 Deaths, Mostly Women and Children Amid Ongoing Conflict

Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of at least 32 individuals, including numerous women and children, according to local health officials. This development coincides with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the United States for discussions with President Donald Trump regarding the ongoing conflict. The ceasefire with Hamas ended last month, and Israel has since seized territory to pressure Hamas into a new truce agreement and the release of hostages.

Impact on Gaza's Civilians

The blockade on food, fuel, and other essential supplies has persisted for over a month, severely affecting Gaza's population. Late Sunday, Israel ordered evacuations in central Gaza's Deir al-Balah after approximately 10 projectiles were launched from Gaza. The military intercepted about five of these projectiles. Hamas claimed responsibility for this barrage, marking the largest since the conflict resumed.

Israeli strikes targeted a tent and a house in Khan Younis, resulting in 15 fatalities, including five men, five women, and five children. Nasser Hospital received the bodies, including that of a toddler. Among the deceased was a female journalist. Her mother, Amal Kaskeen, expressed her grief: "My daughter is innocent. She had no involvement; she loved journalism and adored it."

Protests and International Reactions

In Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza, Israeli shelling claimed at least four lives. Meanwhile, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah received seven bodies, including a child and three women. A strike in Gaza City killed six people outside a bakery, including three children. These incidents have sparked protests against Hamas in Jabaliya.

Inside Israel, there is growing discontent over the war's continuation and its impact on hostages in Gaza. Families of hostages and their supporters have urged Trump to facilitate an end to the conflict. Netanyahu is scheduled to meet Trump again to discuss the war and a new 17% tariff imposed by the U.S., part of broader global economic measures.

International Mediation Efforts

The U.S., along with Egypt and Qatar, has been mediating ceasefire efforts. The U.S. supported Israel's resumption of hostilities last month. Since then, hundreds of Palestinians have died, including 15 medics whose bodies were recovered only a week later. Israel recently revised its account of an incident that drew criticism from Red Cross and U.N. officials.

The conflict reignited when Hamas-led militants attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in approximately 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages taken. Currently, 59 hostages remain in Gaza; 24 are believed alive. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, at least 50,695 Palestinians have died due to Israel's offensive. Israel claims around 20,000 militants have been killed but has not provided evidence.

Netanyahu highlighted the importance of U.S.-Israel relations during his visit to Hungary: "There is a very large queue of leaders who want to do this with respect to their economies. I think it reflects the special personal connection and the special connection between the United States and Israel, which is so vital at this time."
