Ireland Condemns Violent Attacks On Indian Citizens, Pledges Strong Action

The Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi has expressed deep concern and anguish over the recent violent attacks against Indian citizens in Ireland. In an official statement, the Embassy said it "condemns these attacks in the strongest possible terms," describing them as an assault on the values of equality and human dignity that Ireland holds dear. The Embassy further emphasised that racism and xenophobia have no place in Irish society, stressing that the actions of a few individuals do not reflect the spirit of the Irish people and will not be tolerated.

The statement also acknowledged the significant role of the Indian community in Ireland, noting that over 100,000 Indians now call the country home. It praised their contributions, which continue to strengthen the bonds between India and Ireland, and said Irish society is enriched by the diversity brought by people from different backgrounds, particularly the Indian diaspora.

The Embassy confirmed that the Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs will meet with representatives of the Indian community in Ireland on August 11, 2025, to address the matter and reassure them of the government's commitment to their safety. It also stated that it is in regular contact with the Indian mission in Dublin, while the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs remains in ongoing communication with An Garda Síochána, Ireland's police force, regarding investigations into these incidents.

Earlier, on August 1, 2025, the Indian Embassy in Ireland had advised Indian citizens to remain vigilant, take precautions, and be aware of their surroundings in light of the recent increase in physical attacks against Indian nationals. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Ireland has become an increasingly popular destination for Indian students, especially those pursuing postgraduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral studies in engineering, technology, medicine, and management. Presently, around 10,000 Indian students are enrolled in Irish educational institutions.
