Iran Casts Doubt on Israel's Ceasefire Commitment, Warns of Retaliation

Iran has expressed scepticism about a US-mediated ceasefire with Israel, indicating readiness to retaliate if conflicts reignite. Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, was seen mourning beside the coffin of Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander Hossein Salami, who died in Israeli attacks. The Iranian armed forces chief of staff, Abdolrahim Mousavi, voiced concerns over Israel's commitment to the truce.

Mousavi stated, "We have serious doubts about the enemy's commitment to its obligations, including the ceasefire." He further warned of a strong response if aggression continues. These remarks were made during a phone conversation with Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman regarding the fragile ceasefire that began on June 24.

Ceasefire Announcement and Challenges

The conflict between Iran and Israel erupted on June 13 following Israeli strikes that killed several senior Iranian military figures. This escalation affected global markets and heightened fears of regional instability. The strikes targeted both military and civilian areas in Tehran and other cities.

On June 24, Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Israel and Iran had agreed to a truce. Trump's post read: "CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now...)

Impact of the Conflict

The conflict saw significant casualties on both sides. Iran reported 627 fatalities due to Israeli attacks, while Israeli emergency services recorded 28 deaths and over 1,300 injuries from Iranian strikes. The brief setback in the ceasefire occurred when both nations accused each other of violations.

The Trump administration joined the Israeli campaign by bombing three key nuclear sites in Iran. President Donald Trump claimed these attacks had "completely and totally obliterated" Iran's atomic infrastructure.

Trump's Role in Ceasefire

In another post, Trump stated, "Israel & Iran came to me, almost simultaneously, and said, 'PEACE!' I knew the time was NOW." He emphasized that both nations stand to gain love, peace, and prosperity if they adhere to righteousness and truth.

The ceasefire resumed after Trump's intervention urging both countries to halt bombings. He praised both nations for their courage in ending what he termed "THE 12 DAY WAR," which he believed could have devastated the Middle East.

This tentative peace agreement marks a significant moment for both countries as they navigate towards stability amidst ongoing tensions. The world watches closely as these developments unfold in hopes of lasting peace in the region.
