Iran Calls Missile Attack On Israel Avenge Of Ismail Haniyeh, Nasrallah's Killings, Warns Of 'Harsher Response
Iran's Revolutionary Guards have launched over 200 missiles at Israel, claiming it was a response to the deaths of key figures like Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah's Hassan Nasrallah. The attack also avenges IRGC Gen. Abbas Nilforushan, killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut. Iran has warned that any retaliation from Israel will be met with a more severe response.
The Israeli Army reported that Iran fired missiles targeting around 10 million civilians. This came after the US warned of an imminent attack following Israeli actions in Lebanon that resulted in over 1,000 deaths, including senior Hezbollah leaders. Residents were instructed to stay near bomb shelters as sirens sounded across Jerusalem and central Israel.

Iran's Warning of Escalation
Iran's Revolutionary Guards stated that the missile launches were a direct retaliation for recent killings by Israel. They emphasized that if Israel chooses to retaliate, Tehran's response would be even more devastating. Iranian media echoed this sentiment, highlighting the potential for further conflict escalation.
A senior Iranian official revealed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered the missile launch against Israel. The official mentioned Iran's readiness for any counteractions from Israel. Meanwhile, a US official cautioned Iran about severe consequences if they proceeded with ballistic missile attacks on Israel.
International Reactions and Preparedness
The US has positioned ships and aircraft in the region to support Israel if needed. Another US official indicated that an Iranian attack could occur soon, possibly within hours. This preparation underscores the heightened tensions and potential for further military engagements.
Iran's mission to the UN defended its actions as a legitimate response to what it termed terrorist acts by the Zionist regime. It accused these acts of targeting Iranian nationals and infringing on Iran's sovereignty. The mission warned of a crushing response should further provocations occur.
Regional Implications
The statement from Iran also advised regional states and supporters of Israel to distance themselves from the Zionist regime. This highlights the broader geopolitical implications and potential shifts in alliances within the region as tensions continue to rise.
The situation remains tense as both sides prepare for possible further escalations. The international community watches closely, aware of the potential for widespread conflict affecting not just Israel and Iran but potentially drawing in other regional powers.
