Indian Workers Honoured For Saving Pawan Kalyan’s Son In Singapore Fire

Four Indian migrant workers in Singapore have received recognition for their valiant efforts to save adults and children from a shophouse fire that trapped 22 people, including 16 children. When the fire started on April 8 at a shophouse that housed the Tomato Cooking School, nearby employees acted quickly and selflessly.

Mark Shankar Pawanovich, the 8-year-old son of Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, was one of the people saved. Unfortunately, a 10-year-old Australian girl who was also saved passed away in the hospital from her wounds.

The Assurance, Care and Engagement (ACE) Group of Singapore's Ministry of Manpower recognized the four men: Inderjit Singh, Subramanian Saranraj, Nagarajan Anbarasan, and Sivasami Vijayaraj. Because of their courage in saving lives without thinking about their personal safety, they were given the "Friends of ACE" coins.

On River Valley Road, a shophouse on the third floor was the site of the fire. Workers from a nearby construction site hurried to the scene after spotting heavy smoke and hearing children's cries. They immediately retrieved a scaffold and ladder from their workplace and used them to get to the kids who had been positioned on a precarious ledge outside the flaming structure by employees.

To safely transfer the kids to the ground, they arranged themselves into a human chain. The workers concentrated entirely on the rescue even though they were not wearing safety harnesses. They were joined in the endeavor by other nearby migrant workers.

Ten children had been successfully rescued by the workers in the ten minutes before emergency services arrived.

Subramanian Saranraj, 34, talked about the rescue and the terrifying experience. He said he would never forget the sight of the kids, who were covered in soot, coughing, and yelling for assistance.

Through its ACE Group, Singapore's Manpower Ministry praised the group for their bravery and prompt action, saying, "Their quick thinking and bravery made all the difference." We appreciate you reminding us of the strength of community during difficult times.
