Indian Tech Firms Dominate H-1B Visa Issuance With Infosys And TCS Leading In 2024

Indian tech firms have secured a significant portion of H-1B visas issued by the US, with Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) at the forefront. Data from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services indicates that between April and September 2024, Indian-origin companies received around 24,766 of the 130,000 H-1B visas granted.

The H-1B visa programme is crucial for US companies needing foreign workers in specialised roles. Indian tech giants like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and HCL Technologies are consistently top employers of these visa holders. Leading Companies in H-1B Visa Allocation

Infosys topped the list with 8,140 visas, followed by TCS with 5,274. Amazon Com Services LLC was the only company ahead of Infosys overall, issuing 9,265 visas. Cognizant, originally from Chennai but now based in New Jersey, ranked third with 6,321 visas. Meanwhile, Wipro obtained 1,634 visas and Tech Mahindra secured 1,199.

The tech industry has long advocated for an increase in H-1B visas to attract skilled workers from countries like India and China. The current cap is set at 65,000 new visas annually, with an additional 20,000 for those holding advanced degrees.
