Indian Man Jagjit Singh Faces Legal Action For Harassing Teenage Girls In Canada

Jagjit Singh, an Indian visitor to Canada, was arrested for harassing teenage girls outside a school. He faces deportation and a three-year probation for his actions.

Jagjit Singh, a 51-year-old Indian man visiting Canada on a six-month visa, faced legal action for harassing two teenage girls outside their school. After arriving in Ontario in July to see his newborn grandchild, Singh began frequenting a high school's smoking area in Sarnia, where he was accused of harassing young girls.

According to Canadian media reports, Singh repeatedly approached girls from September 8 to 11, attempting to photograph them and discussing drugs and alcohol. One complainant said she initially refused a photo but agreed, hoping Singh would leave. Instead, he intruded on her personal space and tried to put an arm around her, which she resisted.

Legal Consequences and Deportation

After being arrested on September 16 for sexual interference and assault, Singh was released on bail but rearrested when a new complaint surfaced. On September 19, he pleaded not guilty to sexual interference but admitted guilt for criminal harassment in a Sarnia court. The judge emphasized that Singh had "no business attending at the property of (that) high school."

Justice Krista Lynn Leszczynski stated, "This type of conduct will not be tolerated." Singh's lawyer informed the court that he planned to return to India on December 30. However, the judge ordered his deportation and barred him from re-entering Canada.

Probation and Restrictions

Singh received a three-year probation, prohibiting him from contacting the girls or being near their homes, schools, or workplaces. He is also banned from interacting with anyone under 16, except his grandchild, and from being within 100 metres of pools, schools, playgrounds, parks, or community centres.

Despite language barriers, Singh allegedly continued following female students as they exited the school grounds. His actions led to serious charges, reflecting the severity of his conduct. The court's decision aims to ensure the safety of the community and prevent further incidents.
