President Droupadi Murmu Recognises Indian Community in Malawi as Essential Link Between Nations

President Droupadi Murmu praised the Indian community in Malawi for their significant contributions to the country's society and economy. She encouraged them to engage in India's development journey. Murmu arrived in Malawi, concluding her three-nation African tour. At a reception for the Indian diaspora, she described them as a vital connection between India and Malawi, according to her office's post on X.

Murmu Celebrates Indian Community in Malawi

Murmu highlighted the Indian government's dedication to ensuring the welfare of Indians living abroad. She stated, "The welfare of our countrymen living outside India is the top priority of our government. We are committed to working with our partners across the world to address the concerns of Indians and ensure their safety, well-being, and prosperity."

Strengthening Global South Relations

Emphasising India's role on the global stage, Murmu underscored its responsibility as a key voice for the Global South. She remarked that India is committed to representing the interests of two-thirds of the world's population and will continue sharing its experiences with countries in this group.

The president reaffirmed India's commitment to strengthening partnerships with Africa, based on mutual trust and equality. She noted that India's cooperation model with Africa focuses on harnessing local resources and building capacity according to Africa's priorities.

Historical Ties and Future Cooperation

This year marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Malawi. Murmu highlighted these deep-rooted historical and cultural ties. She also addressed the India-Malawi Business Meet, pointing out opportunities for enhancing cooperation in agriculture, mining, energy, and tourism.

Upon her arrival at Kamuzu International Airport, Murmu was warmly welcomed by Vice President Michael Usi. A ceremonial reception included greetings from children and a traditional cultural performance. Her visit followed successful trips to Algeria and Mauritania, where she engaged in talks to strengthen bilateral relations.

The president's visit underscores India's ongoing efforts to deepen its ties with African nations through collaboration based on shared values and mutual benefits.
