In a diplomatic dialogue centred on the Israel-Hamas conflict, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed India's backing for an early ceasefire in Gaza and reiterated support for a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue.

Jaishankar acknowledged the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing Saudi Arabia as a key stabilizing force in the region. "We are deeply pained by the continuing loss of civilian lives," he said, noting India's commitment to international humanitarian law and condemning acts of terrorism while urging the immediate cessation of hostilities.

The minister emphasized India's consistent stance on the Palestinian issue, reaffirming the need for a two-state solution and highlighting India's role in supporting Palestinian institution-building efforts.

India Calls for Peace and Stability in the Middle East

India has advocated for de-escalation across the Middle East in recent weeks, particularly in response to Israeli strikes on Lebanon. Jaishankar underscored that India is actively promoting dialogue, a halt to violence, and humanitarian assistance as essential steps toward peace in the region.

Broadening the India-Saudi Partnership

The foreign ministers co-chaired the Committee on Political, Security, Social, and Cultural Cooperation, which is part of the broader Strategic Partnership Council between India and Saudi Arabia. This framework, launched in 2023, aims to foster cooperation on political, strategic, and economic matters.

Expanding Collaboration: Defense, Trade, and Security

Both ministers explored ways to strengthen the bilateral relationship, which has witnessed notable progress in recent years. Jaishankar highlighted the recent expansion in defence cooperation, with notable milestones such as the first joint land forces exercise and advancements in defence industry partnerships. Security efforts have also grown, with both nations collaborating on counter-terrorism, anti-extremism measures, and combatting terror financing.

Trade remains a cornerstone of India-Saudi ties, with collaborative efforts expanding into technology, energy, renewable energy, and education. Jaishankar expressed appreciation to Saudi Arabia for its support of the 2.6 million Indians residing within its borders, further solidifying the nations' strong diplomatic ties.
