Islamabad, March 20: Pakistan on Monday summoned India's Deputy High Commissioner over alleged "unprovoked" firing by Indian troops along the Line of Control.

LoC

Director General (South Asia and SAARC) Mohammad Faisal summoned India's Deputy High Commissioner J P Singh and "condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violation" by the Indian forces on March 17 on the LoC in Kotli area, the Pakistan Foreign Office said in a statement.

Pakistan has claimed that a 60-year-old woman was killed and at least three other civilians were injured due to alleged firing by Indian forces over the weekend. "The deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed condemnable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws," Faisal said.

The Director General urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire understanding, investigate this and other incidents of "ceasefire violations" and instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire, in letter and spirit and maintain peace along the LoC, the statement said.

Tension has been running high between the two countries along the border.
