PM Modi Highlights India's Non-Expansionist Foreign Policy During Address in Guyana
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised India's commitment to non-expansionism and resource sharing during a speech at the Guyana Parliament. His remarks come amid global concerns over China's territorial ambitions. Modi stressed the importance of identifying and eliminating conflict causes, highlighting challenges like terrorism, drugs, and cybercrime. He advocated for prioritising democracy and humanity to shape a better future for upcoming generations.

Modi underscored India's foreign policy, stating that the country has never pursued expansionist goals or sought to seize resources. "We have always stayed away from the feeling of occupying resources," he said. He believes that areas like space and sea should foster cooperation rather than conflict. "This is not the time for conflict for the world either," he added.
Global South's Role in Development
The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of a united Global South voice in ensuring the welfare of developing nations. He stated, "This is the time for the awakening of the Global South." Modi noted that democracy is ingrained in India's DNA, vision, and conduct. He asserted that India supports global development and has become a voice for the Global South.
Modi pointed out that many countries developed by harming the environment, while India progressed by protecting nature. He mentioned that nations in the Global South are now bearing the brunt of climate change impacts. "It is very important to get the world out of this imbalance," he said, stressing the need for collective action.
Democracy and Humanity as Guiding Principles
The Prime Minister reiterated India's commitment to democracy and humanity as guiding principles in global affairs. "The strongest mantra to move ahead is democracy first -- humanity first," he stated. Modi explained that these principles encourage inclusive development and guide decision-making towards humanity's benefit.
Addressing representatives in Guyana, Modi expressed aspirations for development shared by both India and Guyana. He emphasised the importance of a united voice from the Global South in creating a new global order. "I see a big role of all you representatives of Guyana in this," he remarked.
Modi acknowledged various challenges faced by the 21st-century world, including strengthening democracy globally. He conveyed greetings from 140 crore Indians to Guyana's Parliament, highlighting shared democratic values between both nations.
The Prime Minister concluded by affirming India's stance on global development and cooperation. He reiterated that every nation matters in achieving global goals, stressing that no country or region should be left behind. This approach reflects India's dedication to fostering trust and transparency on the international stage.
