Lawyer Raises Alarm Over Ex-PM Imran Khan's Safety in Pakistan Jail

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan may be slow-poisoned to death in jail, according to his lawyer Naeem Panjutha. He also claims that new methods are being used to mentally torture and restrict the movement of the 70-year-old ex-premier who was transferred to a lower class cell at Adiala Jail recently.

In a recent development, Naeem Panjutha, the legal representative and spokesman for Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan, expressed concerns regarding the safety of his client. He raised an alarming possibility that Khan might be subjected to slow-poisoning while in jail. This statement comes amidst claims of mental torture and restrictions on movement being imposed on the ex-premier.

Allegations of Mental Torture and Restricted Movement

Panjutha elaborated on his allegations by stating that Khan is undergoing mental stress due to the conditions he is facing in confinement. The lawyer claimed that such circumstances might lead to slow food poisoning, thereby posing a threat to Khan's life. In addition to this psychological torment, he also mentioned that there were severe limitations placed on Khan’s mobility within the prison premises.

Transfer to Lower Class Cell

The 70-year-old former premier was reportedly moved from Attock jail following court orders and transferred into a lower-class cell at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi last Monday night. Security personnel have been stationed outside his cell since then according to Panjutha who added that new methods were being employed with an intent to break down Imran Khan emotionally and psychologically.

Petition Filed Regarding Prison Conditions

In response to these alleged harsh conditions faced by Imran Khan in jail, Panjutha stated that he has filed a petition with Islamabad High Court (IHC). The petition details the dire circumstances under which Khan is living currently inside prison walls. The hearing for this case has been scheduled for October 5th.

Khan's Arrest After Conviction

Imran Khan was arrested earlier this year on August 5 after being convicted in what is known as the Toshakhana case. The former Prime Minister has been implicated in numerous other cases following his removal from office in April of the previous year. However, on Monday, IHC restored Khan's bail.

In conclusion, the safety and well-being of Pakistan's ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan have become a matter of grave concern as allegations of mental torture, restricted movement and potential slow-poisoning emerge. His lawyer Naeem Panjutha’s petition to Islamabad High Court seeks urgent attention towards these issues. While it remains to be seen how authorities respond to these serious claims, the situation raises questions about the treatment meted out to high-profile prisoners in Pakistan.
