George Santos says he expects to be expelled from Congress
Rep. George Santos (R-NY) said he expects to be expelled from Congress following a scathing report by the House Ethics Committee that found substantial evidence of lawbreaking.
In the wake of a scathing report by the House Ethics Committee, Rep. George Santos (R-NY) has said he expects to be expelled from Congress. The report found substantial evidence of lawbreaking by Santos, including using campaign funds for personal purposes and filing false or incomplete campaign finance reports.

Defiant Speech
In a defiant speech on Friday, Santos insisted he was not going anywhere. However, he acknowledged that his time in Congress may soon be coming to an end. "I know I'm going to get expelled when this expulsion resolution goes to the floor," he said. "I've done the math over and over, and it doesn't look really good."
House Ethics Committee Investigation
The House Ethics Committee's months-long investigation into Santos uncovered a wide range of alleged misconduct, including using campaign funds for personal purposes, such as purchases at luxury retailers and adult content websites. The report also found that Santos did not cooperate with the investigation and repeatedly evaded straightforward requests for information.
Santos' Response
Santos has dismissed the report's findings as slanderous and designed to force him out of his seat. He has refused to address the specifics of the report, citing the ongoing criminal case brought by federal prosecutors. Instead, Santos has lashed out at his congressional colleagues, accusing them of misconduct that he says is far worse than anything he has done.
No Seeking Reelection
Santos has also announced that he will not seek reelection in 2024. He says this decision is not due to external pressure, but rather his frustration with the arrogance of his colleagues. "These people need to understand it's done when I say it's done, when I want it to be done, not when they want it to be done," he said.
The House Ethics Committee's report on George Santos has cast a shadow over his future in Congress. Santos has said he expects to be expelled, and many of his colleagues now support his expulsion. It remains to be seen whether Santos will be able to survive the scandal and remain in Congress, or whether he will be forced to resign or be expelled.
