Will 'live and die' as Benazir's spouse; not married to Dr Tanveer Zamani: Asif Ali Zardari

Islamabad, July 8: Former Pakistani president and widower of Benazir Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari has denied rumuors that claims that he has been married to New York-based Dr Tanveer Zamani.

59-year-old Zardari's spokesperson Farhatullah Babar on Tuesday, July 7, issued a statement that "the former president was proud to "live and die as the spouse of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and son-in-law of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and would hate to barter away this honour for anything else". Meanwhile, it is being said that 51-year-old Zamani has refrained from denying the reports of her second marriage to Zardari. [NY woman in Zardari wedding controversy denies rumours]

Recently, Zamani appeared regulary in Pakistani news channels as the spokesperson of Pakistan's Peoples Party (PPP), adding fuel to speculations.

According to media reports, Zardari allegedly secretly tied the knot with Zamani in 2011 in UAE and the couple is said to have a child, named Sajawal. Sajawal's birth allegedly became a point of rift between Zardari and his son Bilawal Bhutto.

Dr Tanveer Zamani was born in Hyderabad in India on August 30, 1963. On her passport, her husband's name is mentioned as Javaid Tehseen Saddique and her father's name is Ahmed Ali Yahya Farooqi.

In 2011, Zamani had said, "I explicitly and clearly deny being married or being subject to a proposal or notion of being married to the Pakistani President, whom I hold in high esteem". [Rift in PPP as support for 'team Bilawal' grows?]

In an email sent to the media, Zamani had said: "I have never met President Zardari and the only reason I have refrained from commenting on an Internet hoax involving me is because I deemed it against my dignity to respond to such a hoax. Bloggers and journalists do not have the right to make up stories and disrupt the lives of people"
