Alt News Co-Founder busts viral image, questions source

There were reports that parents of deceased females were forced to put padlocks on the graves of their daughters in order to prevent their corpses from getting raped in Pakistan. However, Alt New Co-founder has now claimed that Indian media reported the news without verifying the authenticity of the content.

Several media outlets had carried the report citing a tweet from an ex-Muslim atheist activist and the author of the book "The Curse of God, why I left Islam" Harris Sultan.

"Pakistan has created such a horny, sexually frustrated society that people are now putting padlocks on the graves of their daughters to prevent them from getting raped. When you link the burqa with rape, it follows you to the grave," he had tweeted.

However, it looks like it is an unverified claim as there is no authentic report published in Pakistan media on the issue.

Fact checker Mohammed Zubair has posted a series of tweets questioning the authenticity of the claims. "Did News Agencies & News Channels try to find if this 'News' was reported by local channels, Any authentic source? Where exactly is the incident from, Did they speak to the parents? No. Their articles was based on a tweet by Harris Sultan who had tweeted on Wednesday, April 26th," he wrote.

In the follow-up post he highlighted that he did search in Urdu to check the veracity of the claims and did not find mention of rape in any of the Facebook posts. "With keyword search in Urdu, I found a few more Facebook posts from Tuesday 25th April. None of them had mentioned about the rape. The narrative of 'rape' started much later," he added.

The fact checker also spoke to the person who shared the picture on the social media platform. "I spoke to one of the guy who shared the image. Here's what he had to say. Trying to find who clicked the image or shared it first, will update the thread when I have more info. Why are Indian News Agencies & Outlets sharing unverified claims just because it's viral on twitter," he tweeted.

Based on these tweets, it becomes clear that the claims have not been verified.
