Enemy Made a Grave Mistake, Must Be Punished: Iran’s Khamenei Warns US

Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has strongly criticised the United States for its recent attacks on Iran's nuclear sites. He described these actions as a grave crime committed by the "Zionist enemy" and warned of severe repercussions. Khamenei emphasised that those responsible will face harsh punishment for their reckless provocation.

The US military recently targeted three Iranian nuclear facilities, including the Fordow site, using 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs. This attack marks the most significant Western military action against Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. In response, Iran has vowed to retaliate against this aggression.

Iran's President Responds

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also condemned the US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. During a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, he stressed that the United States must "receive a response" for its aggressive actions. Pezeshkian reiterated Iran's commitment to responding to what he termed as unwarranted aggression.

In his first public reaction to the US strike, Khamenei took to social media platform X to express his outrage. He stated, "The punishment continues. The Zionist enemy has made a big mistake, committed a big crime; it must be punished and it is being punished; it is being punished right now."

UN Security Council Involvement

Amid rising tensions, Iran called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council on Sunday. Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran's UN Ambassador, accused Israel and the US of undermining diplomatic efforts. He argued that the nuclear non-proliferation treaty has been misused as a political tool rather than ensuring peaceful nuclear energy rights.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern over the situation. He described the bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities by the United States as a dangerous escalation. Guterres urged immediate action to stop hostilities and resume serious negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear programme.
