Earthquake of 7.0 magnitude jolts Indonesia
A strong earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter Scale jolted 96 km north of Tuban, Indonesia, on Friday.
According to Xinhua News Agency, the epicentre of the tremor, which struck the region at 09:55:45 GMT, was initially located at 6.0255 degrees south latitude and 112.0332 degrees east longitude.

The tremor was felt over a large part of the island of Java, and as far away as the island of Bali.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's geological agency ruled out a tsunami after the epicentre was detected to be at a depth of 594 kilometres (370 miles).
Indonesia is prone to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area with high seismic activity, and has experienced numerous earthquakes in the past.
On April 3, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck off Sumatra island in Indonesia, shaking homes of panicked residents but causing no casualties or damage.
The Pacific Ring of Fire is a horseshoe-shaped region surrounding the Pacific Ocean, stretching from the west coast of South America, up to Alaska, down through Japan, the Philippines, and Indonesia, and then along the western coasts of North and South America.
The reason why Indonesia experiences a lot of earthquakes is due to its location along the boundary of two tectonic plates: the Australian Plate and the Eurasian Plate. These two plates are constantly moving, with the Australian Plate being pushed northwards and downwards beneath the Eurasian Plate. As a result, the friction between the two plates builds up, causing the release of energy in the form of earthquakes.
Moreover, Indonesia has a large number of active volcanoes, which also contributes to the seismic activity in the region. When a volcano erupts, it can cause earthquakes as the magma and gases move around beneath the Earth's surface.
Overall, the combination of tectonic activity and volcanic activity makes Indonesia prone to earthquakes.
