Earthquake measuring 6.1 jolts Jakarta

A massive earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale shook Indonesia's capital Jakarta on Tuesday.

The United States Geological Survey said the 6.0-magnitude quake struck at a depth of 43 kilometres.

Thousands of people evacuated the building due to the earthquake which lasted for just under a minute.

The quake struck around 65 miles west of the city of Sukabumi on the island of Java, at a depth of 21 miles, said reports. There was no Tsunami warning issued.

An earthquake struck Indonesia's western province of Aceh in December 2016, killing more than 100 people, injuring many more and leaving tens of thousands homeless.

Last month, Java was struck by a 6.5-magnitude earthquake which left four people dead and 36 injured.
