'Don't Take The Bait': Zelensky Was Warned Before Epic Showdown With Trump
Just hours before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky entered the Oval Office for his now-infamous meeting with President Donald Trump, he received a stark warning from a US senator.
"Don't take the bait," advised Republican Senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina, cautioning the Ukrainian leader against engaging in a heated exchange with Trump, according to The New York Times.

"I said, don't get into arguments about security agreements," Graham told the Times in an interview.
As the meeting commenced, Zelensky expressed concerns over Ukraine's war effort and the uncertainty surrounding US military assistance. His appeal for a stronger American role in the conflict with Russia led to an extraordinary confrontation.
Trump and Vice President JD Vance accused him of showing a lack of gratitude. What followed was an unprecedented public clash in front of journalists, culminating in Zelensky leaving the White House abruptly, without securing a minerals-sharing agreement that had been widely expected to be signed.
Trump had repeatedly suggested that Ukraine should seek a peace deal with Moscow, a stance that had unsettled both Zelensky and his European allies.
Upon his arrival at the White House, Trump greeted the Ukrainian leader with a pointed remark about his customary military-style clothing. "Oh look, you're all dressed up," he quipped.
During the highly publicised meeting, Trump, visibly growing impatient, pressed Zelensky on whether Ukraine was willing to make concessions to Russia. Vance then joined in, accusing Zelensky of being "ungrateful" for the aid the United States had already provided.
Zelensky, rather than evading the criticism, pushed back. "What kind of diplomacy, JD?" he asked Vance, listing multiple failed diplomatic efforts that had preceded Russia's full-scale invasion.
The exchange quickly escalated. Vance, angered by Zelensky's direct challenge, accused him of disrespecting the US President. Trump, in turn, warned the Ukrainian leader that he was "gambling with World War III."
Tensions reached a peak when Zelensky cautioned that Russian aggression posed a long-term threat, including to the United States. "You have nice ocean and don't feel now, but you will feel it in the future," he remarked.
That was the final straw for Trump, who abruptly ended the meeting, telling the press that the spectacle would make for "great television."
Senator Graham, who had initially attempted to act as a mediator, later told reporters that Zelensky should "resign and send somebody over that we can do business with, or change."
Other Republican leaders quickly followed suit, either downplaying the confrontation or blaming Zelensky for not showing due respect to Trump.
Zelensky, however, remained defiant. In a later interview with Fox News, he acknowledged that the exchange had been heated but maintained that his approach had been necessary.
