Deadly Gaza Blast Derails US Diplomatic Efforts

A huge explosion at a Gaza hospital has derailed US-led diplomatic efforts to support Israel, resulting in the cancellation of a summit between President Joe Biden and Arab leaders in Amman, Jordan.

A massive explosion at a hospital in the Gaza Strip has derailed diplomatic efforts led by the United States to mobilize support for Israel's right to defend itself. The incident has resulted in the cancellation of a summit between US President Joe Biden and Arab leaders scheduled to take place in Amman, Jordan.

Hundreds Feared Dead

Gaza hospital explosion

The deadly blast at the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza City has left hundreds of people feared dead. Hamas and Israel have traded charges, holding each other responsible for the incident. The hospital, located in the densely populated Gaza Strip, was struck by a powerful explosion, causing widespread destruction and loss of life.

Biden's Visit to Israel

US President Joe Biden is scheduled to arrive in Israel on Wednesday on a solidarity visit to express support for the country. However, the summit in Amman, which was set to include Jordan's King Abdullah, Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, has been called off due to the escalating tensions in the region.

Hamas Blames Israel, US

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh has accused Israel of carrying out an airstrike that caused the explosion at the hospital. However, Israel vehemently denies these claims, insisting that a misfired rocket by Hamas itself caused the blast. Haniyeh went further, blaming the United States for the attack, stating that Washington provided Israel with "cover for its aggression."

International Condemnation

Several countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey, have condemned Israel for allegedly bombing the hospital. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has refuted these accusations, holding the "barbaric terrorists in Gaza" responsible for the deaths. President Isaac Herzog described the allegations as a "blood libel" and accused Hamas and Islamic Jihad of spreading false information.

Tensions Escalate

The incident has further escalated tensions in the region, with both sides exchanging accusations and threats. The Israeli Foreign Ministry released a statement claiming that an analysis of their operational systems indicated that a barrage of rockets fired by terrorists in Gaza passed close to the Al Ahli hospital at the time of the explosion. Mark Regev, a senior adviser to Netanyahu, pointed out that rockets were fired towards central Israel at the same time as the blast, suggesting that a misfired rocket could have caused the damage.

Abbas Cancels Meeting with Biden

Earlier on Tuesday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas canceled his participation in the meeting with President Biden following spontaneous protests in the West Bank. The Palestinian Authority's security forces had to use force to quell the demonstrations, highlighting the growing unrest and anger among the Palestinian population.

Emergency UN Security Council Meeting

In response to the escalating conflict, the UAE and Russia have called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Wednesday. The aim of the meeting is to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and discuss ways to de-escalate the situation following the deadly blast at the hospital.

The explosion at the Gaza hospital has had far-reaching consequences, derailing diplomatic efforts and deepening the rift between Israel and the Palestinians. The incident has drawn international attention and sparked widespread condemnation, with calls for an immediate investigation and accountability. As tensions continue to rise, the need for a peaceful resolution and dialogue between the parties involved becomes more urgent than ever.
