Lynch Mob Of Hundreds Storms Russian Airport Looking For Jews Landing From Tel Aviv

"In Russia's Dagestan region, hundreds of people stormed into the main airport, chanting antisemitic slogans and seeking passengers from Tel Aviv. The incident resulted in injuries and the closure of Makhachkala airport."

In a shocking incident on Sunday, hundreds of people stormed into the main airport in Russia's Dagestan region and onto the landing field. The crowd was reportedly chanting antisemitic slogans and were seeking passengers arriving on a flight from Tel Aviv, Israel. Russian news agencies and social media reported this alarming event.

The crowd surrounded an airliner belonging to the Russian carrier Red Wings. Following this disturbance, authorities closed the airport in Makhachkala, which is the capital of this predominantly Muslim region. Law enforcement officers quickly converged on the facility to manage the situation. According to reports by Dagestan’s Ministry of Health, more than 20 people were injured during these events with two individuals in critical condition; police officers and civilians included among those hurt.

Reactions To The Incident

Social media footage showed some members of the crowd waving Palestinian flags while others attempted to overturn a police car. Antisemitic slogans could be heard being shouted out loud as some participants examined passports of arriving passengers, seemingly trying to identify Israeli citizens. In response to these events, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office issued a statement expecting Russian law enforcement authorities "to protect the safety of all Israeli citizens and Jews wherever they may be" whilst also acting decisively against rioters inciting violence against Jews and Israelis.

Steps Taken By Authorities

The Ministry of Internal Affairs for Russia’s North Caucasian Federal District said that CCTV footage would be used to establish identities of those who stormed into the airport with intentions to bring them justice. The regional Dagestani government appealed for calm among its citizens while expressing support for Palestinians in Gaza but discouraging participation in such protests.

Calls For Calm And Justice

The Supreme Mufti of Dagestan, Sheikh Akhmad Afandi, called on residents to stop the unrest at the airport. He expressed understanding for their indignation but insisted that such issues could not be resolved in this manner. Dagestan Governor Sergei Melikov also promised consequences for anyone who took part in the violence, calling it a gross violation of law and an outrage.

Airport Closure

Russia's civilian aviation agency, Rosaviatsia, reported that although the airfield had been cleared following these events, Makhachkala airport would remain closed to incoming aircraft until November 6.

In conclusion, this disturbing incident has highlighted the importance of ensuring safety and security at airports worldwide. It serves as a reminder that antisemitic sentiments still persist and must be addressed resolutely by international authorities. The actions taken by Russian authorities to bring those involved in this incident to justice are being closely watched by global observers.
