Countries Rewarded That Openly Support Terrorism: PM Modi Takes Potshot At US For Supporting Pakistan

In a dig taken at the United States and the IMF (International Monetary Fund), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday for rewarding Pakistan despite supporting terrorism.

What PM Modi Said On Double Standards?

Speaking at the G7 Outreach Session in Kananaskis in Canada, PM Modi highlighted what he called "double standards" in global policy. "On one hand, we are quick to impose all kinds of sanctions based on our own preferences. On the other hand, countries that openly support terrorism are rewarded," stated PM Modi. He drew a clear parallel between US sanctions on Iran and the recent $1 billion (over Rs 8,000 crore) bailout package Pakistan received from the IMF during "Operation Sindoor."

He stated, "Unfortunately, the Global South countries suffer the most from uncertainty and conflicts. They are the first to be hit by crises related to food, fuel, fertilizer, and finance. India considers it its responsibility to bring the priorities and concerns of the Global South to the world stage," said PM Narendra Modi at the G7 Outreach Session in Kananaskis, Canada."

The Indian Prime Minister said that terrorism is an enemy of humanity. "It is against all countries that uphold democratic values. For global peace and prosperity, our thoughts and policies must be clear - if any country supports terrorism, it will have to pay the price for it...," PM Modi added.

He explained, "There should be no place for double standards on terrorism. The terrorist attack that happened on 22nd April was not only an attack on Pahalgam, but also on the soul, identity, and dignity of every Indian. It was an attack on the entire humanity."

Pahalgam Attack And Pakistan's Bailout Package

On April 22, a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir killed 26 civilians. This was the biggest such attack since the abrogation of Article 370.

India launched Operation Sindoor to strike the terror infrastructure in the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir and Pakistan, killing over 100 terrorists. Islamabad then retaliated with airstrikes.

The conflict came to a pause even as US President Donald Trump made claims of mediating between the two countries. Days after the Pahalgam incident, Trump's family-backed World Liberty Financial signed a deal with Pakistan Crypto Council and the IMF approvesd $1 billion disbursement to Pakistan.
