Bizarre! Chilean Grandma found with 50 year old mummified foetus

Santiago (Chile), June 20: Bizarre is an understatement for this case. A routine test of a Chilean 92-year old grandmother revealed that she has been bearing a mummified foetus for the last 50 years. The foetus weighed two kilos and was discovered only when she was rushed to the hospital after suffering a fall.

A chance hip X-ray showed that the foetus was 7-months developed, but did not cause any problems. Doctors name it as a rare situation-lithopedion-when the foetus dies during pregnancy and calcifies outside the uterus.

This could go undiagnosed for decades and is not considered a serious condition. The Chilean woman was, in fact, returned home after a check up, without any surgeries.
