Charlie Kirk Killed: Purported Video of His Assassination Surfaces Online

A video that appears to show the assassination of Charlie Kirk is doing rounds online, depicting the moment he was shot.

In the clip, he is seen being shot while he was speaking at an event at a Utah university. However, Oneindia cannot independently verify the authenticity of the clip.

Conservative activist and close ally of former President Donald Trump, Charlie Kirk, was shot and killed at an event hosted by his organization, Turning Point USA, on the campus of Utah Valley University. Utah Governor Spencer Cox described the killing as a "political assassination" and a "dark day for our state." A person of interest was taken into custody, though authorities stated that the suspected shooter had not been arrested.

The shooting occurred while Kirk was seated under a tent, taking questions from an audience member about mass shootings. A single gunshot rang out, and video confirmed by the AP shows Kirk reaching for his neck as blood gushed from the wound. The campus was immediately evacuated and closed.

Videos posted to social media from Utah Valley University show Kirk speaking into a handheld microphone while sitting under a white tent emblazoned with the slogans "The American Comeback" and "Prove Me Wrong", PTI reported.

A single shot rings out and Kirk can be seen reaching up with his right hand as a large volume of blood gushes from the left side of his neck. Stunned spectators are heard gasping and screaming before people start to run away. The AP was able to confirm the videos were taken at Sorensen Center courtyard on the Utah Valley University campus.

Kirk was speaking at a debate hosted by his nonprofit political organization. Immediately before the shooting, Kirk was taking questions for an audience member about mass shootings and gun violence.

"Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?" an audience member asked. Kirk responded, "Too many."
The questioner followed up: "Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years?"

"Counting or not counting gang violence?" Kirk asked.Then a single shot rang out.

Former President Trump announced the death on social media, praising Kirk as "Great, and even Legendary" and stating that "No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie." The event had been controversial on campus, with a petition to bar Kirk from speaking garnering nearly 1,000 signatures, though the university had affirmed its commitment to free speech.

The attack drew swift bipartisan condemnation from figures including California Governor Gavin Newsom and former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. The circumstances of the shooting fueled concerns about a spike in political violence across the political spectrum. A witness at the event, former Congressman Jason Chaffetz, stated that Kirk did not have enough security, noting that such events are uncommon in Utah.
