Meanwhile, TD senior leader A. Venkata Gopala Krishna, called Chandrababu Naidu's arrest as an unfortunate incident and accused the CID for not giving proper reason for the arrest.
TDP chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, was arrested over the corruption charges. Naidu was produced in an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) courtroom in Vijayawada on Sunday under tight security.
Naidu claimed that he was unlawfully detained by the CB CID for seven hours. He further asserted that his bus was gheraoed on September 8th, restricting his movement. Naidu was taken to the CB CID office at Mangalagiri without being presented before any court.
Naidu's legal defense Supreme Court advocate Siddarth Luthra citing Section 17-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act., said "The petitioner was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh when the alleged offence alleged to have been committed and the person who removes the Chief Minister from Office is his majesty i.e., the Governor of Andhra Pradesh and hence the prosecution has to obtain prior sanction of the Governor even to initiate an enquiry/investigation in the above case. Hence, there is a statutory violation and hence the remand has to be rejected."
