Can You Hit Moscow? Trump Asked Zelenskyy About Deep Strikes Into Russia: Report

U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly pressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on whether Kyiv could launch strikes on Moscow if provided with long-range American missiles. The conversation is said to have taken place during a phone call on July 4, just one day after Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a Financial Times report citing two sources familiar with the exchange.

During the call, Trump explored the possibility of supplying US-made ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) missiles to Ukraine and questioned Zelenskyy on Kyiv's capability to strike targets deep inside Russian territory, including the capital, Moscow.

Sources said Trump expressed frustration following his separate conversation with Putin, describing the Russian leader as unyielding and not showing genuine interest in halting the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The report comes at a time when the Pentagon has paused certain arms deliveries to Ukraine, even as Trump signals a broader strategy of military support to NATO allies. Speaking from the Oval Office alongside NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Trump reaffirmed U.S. plans to ramp up the production and delivery of high-end military hardware to alliance members.

"We are going to produce top-of-the-line weapons, and they will go to NATO," Trump told reporters.

He also turned up the pressure on Moscow by issuing a stark ultimatum: a 50-day deadline to agree to a ceasefire, or face severe economic retaliation. "If there's no deal in 50 days, we'll impose secondary tariffs-100 percent. That's how it's going to be," he said.

Among the aid under discussion is a shipment of Patriot air defence systems, long sought by Ukraine. Trump indicated that a deal is being negotiated with a country that has 17 Patriot batteries ready for dispatch. "We're working on a deal to send those-either all or a significant portion-to the war zone in Ukraine," Trump said.
