Bushra Bibi Faces Non-Bailable Warrants Amid Al-Qadir University Corruption Case
In a significant development, a court in Rawalpindi has escalated legal pressures on Bushra Bibi, spouse of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan, by issuing non-bailable warrants against her. These actions are part of the broader GBP 190 million corruption investigation associated with the Al-Qadir University Trust. The court's decision, led by Judge Nasir Javed Rana, underscores the intensifying scrutiny over the financial dealings of Imran Khan and his family members.
Additionally, the former Prime Minister Imran Khan found himself before the court due to this case. Despite the serious allegations and the recent warrants, it's noteworthy that both Khan and Bushra Bibi had managed to secure bail from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) earlier in relation to the National Crime Agency (NCA) settlement reference involving the same amount of GBP 190 million. The IHC, under Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, had concluded to release Imran Khan on a surety bond of PKR 1 million after hearing the case.

In response to the unfolding legal battles, Bushra Bibi took a proactive step by releasing a video message. In it, she called upon PTI supporters to take part in the party's planned protest on November 24, describing it as a "final or do-or-die" effort to combat the government. In her message, she lamented the negative propaganda and character assassination attempts that she claims began following her family's visit to Madinah, Saudi Arabia. She specifically mentioned accusations leveled against her husband, branding him a "Jewish agent."
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has been diligently investigating the case, particularly focusing on the alleged misappropriation of hundreds of acres of land tied to the Al-Qadir University Trust. The investigation suggests this misallocation led to a significant financial loss of GBP 190 million to the national treasury. The accusations detail that Imran Khan, along with other implicated individuals, misallocated PKR 50 billion (equivalent to GBP 190 million at the time) received from the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) meant for the Pakistani government.
On December 26, 2019, NAB took a decisive step by filing a corruption reference involving Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and six others in relation to the Al-Qadir University project. This move illustrates the legal challenges confronting the Khan family and their associates, shedding light on the complexities of the case and its implications for Pakistani politics and governance.
As the legal proceedings against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi progress, the political landscape in Pakistan remains closely watched by observers and supporters alike. The outcomes of these cases could have profound impacts on the future of PTI and its leadership, marking a pivotal moment in the country's ongoing struggle against corruption.
