Brexit has put both major UK parties in trouble; now, 7 MPs quit Labour Party

London, Feb 19: It's not just the ruling Conservative Party in the UK which is facing serious rift over the impending Brexit but also the Opposition Labour Party.

On Monday, seven pro-European Union MPs of the Labour Party resigned from the party posing a major challenge to its leader Jeremy Corbyn, a left-wing politician.

The split, speculation over which was rife for some time, came just days ahead of crucial parliamentary votes on Brexit in which the parliamentarians want Corbyn to support a second referendum on Brexit.

The seven MPs said they would name them the Independent Group and try to gain control of the centre ground in UK politics. This split marked the first co-ordinated exit of the Labour MPs since Corbyn became the leader four years ago,

Labour Party's deputy leader Tom Watson even warned that more MPs would resign if the party did not alter its ways.

This development shows that both the major parties in the UK are now facing a serious challenge over Brexit which is set to take place on March 29.

Recently, Prime Minister Theresa May's withdrawal agreement faced a drubbing in a parliamentary voting although May closely survived a scare of losing power.
