Brazil: Tragic Plane Crash In Gramado Claims 10 Lives
A tragic plane crash occurred in Gramado, a tourist city in southern Brazil, on Sunday. The aircraft, carrying 10 individuals, crashed into shops in the city centre. Civil defence officials confirmed that there were no survivors. Governor Eduardo Leite expressed his condolences on social media platform X, stating: "Unfortunately, initial reports indicate that the aircraft's occupants did not survive."
Cleber dos Santos Lima, Director of the Interior Police Department of the state civil police, confirmed to AFP that nine deaths had been verified by civil defence and stated, "There are no survivors of the plane." The incident has left the community in shock as they mourn this devastating loss.

Brazil Plane Crash Details
The Piper Cheyenne 400 turboprop plane crashed into a building's chimney before hitting a house's second floor and landing on a furniture store. An inn was also damaged during the incident. The plane had departed from Canela, another tourist town in Rio Grande do Sul. Gramado is particularly crowded during the Christmas season due to its popularity as a tourist destination.
Unverified footage captured burning debris scattered across the street following the crash. The aircraft was en route to Florianopolis after taking off from Canela's regional airport. Gramado is renowned for its German-inspired architecture and scenic mountainous views, attracting many visitors during this festive period.
Casualties and Injuries in Brazil Plane Crash
The exact number of passengers and crew aboard remains unconfirmed, though earlier reports suggested 10 people were on board. At least 15 individuals were hospitalised due to smoke inhalation from the fire caused by the crash. Authorities continue to investigate and provide updates as more information becomes available.
Governor Eduardo Leite mentioned on social media that he is closely monitoring the situation alongside state security forces. He stated that all available personnel from Gramado and Canela have been mobilised to address this tragic event.
