Biden says Israel has right to respond to slaughter of its people

US President Joe Biden has said that Israel has the right to respond to the slaughter of its people and it will be ensured that the country has what it needs to defend itself.

Washington, Oct 26: US President Joe Biden has said that Israel has the right to respond to the slaughter of its people and it will be ensured that the country has what it needs to defend itself. Biden made the remarks in a joint news conference with visiting Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Israel's Counter-offensive Against Hamas

Israel

Israel has launched a massive counter-offensive against Hamas after unprecedented attacks by the militant group on October 7 killed more than 1,400 people. Biden said that Israel has the right, and he would add responsibility, to respond to the slaughter of their people. He guaranteed that Israel will have what it needs to defend itself against these terrorists.

Hamas Does Not Represent the Palestinian People

Biden also said that Hamas does not represent the vast majority of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip or anywhere else. He accused Hamas of hiding behind Palestinian civilians and called their actions despicable and cowardly. Biden acknowledged that this puts an added burden on Israel while they go after Hamas, but he emphasized that it does not lessen the need to operate and align with the laws of war.

Protecting Innocent Civilians

The US President said that Israel has to do everything in its power to protect innocent civilians. He thanked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for working with the US to make sure that food, water, and medical supplies are getting through to innocent people in Gaza. Biden said that the flow needs to increase and that the US is working very hard with its partners to make that happen.

A Vision for Peace

Biden also said that Israelis and Palestinians equally deserve to live side by side in safety, dignity, and peace. He said that there is no going back to the status quo as it stood on October 6th. That means ensuring Hamas can no longer terrorize Israel and use Palestinian civilians as human shields, he said. Biden emphasized the need for a two-state solution and a concentrated effort from all the parties involved to put them on a path toward peace.

US President Joe Biden's statement reflects the complex situation in the Middle East and the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine. His emphasis on Israel's right to defend itself, the need to protect innocent civilians, and the importance of a two-state solution highlights the challenges that lie ahead in achieving lasting peace in the region.
