Astronauts Sunita Williams, Butch Wilmore Set For Return After 9 Months, SpaceX-NASA Launch Crew-10 Mission
SpaceX and NASA have successfully launched the Crew-10 mission to bring back astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore from the International Space Station (ISS). Both the astronauts have been stranded in space for more than 9 months.
The new arrivals include NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, JAXA astronaut Takuya Onishi, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Kirill Peskov. This marks the 10th crew rotation under SpaceX's human space transportation system and the 11th crewed flight to the ISS through NASA's Commercial Crew Program.

Support from US Leadership
Before the launch, US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth expressed his support for the mission in a video message. He stated, "I just want to take a brief moment to say we are praying for you." He continued, "We wish you Godspeed, and we look forward to welcoming you all home soon."
Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore had initially planned a short stay at the ISS last June. However, their visit extended unexpectedly to nine months. Their return was eagerly anticipated by many, including President Trump, who urged Elon Musk to expedite their return.
President Trump's Directive
Hegseth mentioned that President Trump instructed Elon Musk to ensure the astronauts' swift return. "President Trump said to Elon Musk, 'get the astronauts home and do it now' - and they're responding," he noted.
The mission's success is a testament to SpaceX's capabilities in human space transportation. It highlights their role in facilitating NASA's objectives through commercial partnerships.
Crew-10 Mission Details
The Crew-10 mission is significant as it continues SpaceX's collaboration with NASA under their Commercial Crew Program. This program aims to maintain a steady flow of personnel between Earth and the ISS.
As part of this mission, retired US Navy Captains Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams are being brought back home. Their safe return is a priority for both SpaceX and NASA.
This successful launch underscores the importance of international cooperation in space exploration.
