Afghanistan suicide bombing: 8 killed in Pul-i-Alam
Kabul, Aug 6: In a first major attack since confirmation of death of Taliban leader Mullah Omar, at least eight people were killed when a suicide bomber detonated a truck in Afghanistan on Thursday.
The attack took place in Pul-i-Alam, the capital of Logar province, in eastern Afghanistan. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, reported Al Jazeera.
The casualties in the latest attack include three personnel of Quick Reaction Force and three civilians.
The attack was carried out to target military and para military units.
"A truck filled with explosives was detonated when it was stopped at the gate of the Quick Reaction Force [police] compound," said deputy provincial police chief Mohammad Qari Wara.
Afghanistan says gatherings mourning Mullah Omar 'legitimate target'
The attack highlights growing insecurity as Afghan forces face their first summer fighting season without full NATO support.
