Afghanistan: Explosion in Lashkargah city leaves 1 killed, 5 injured
At least on police personnel was killed and five other injured in a heavy explosion reported in Bolan area of Lashkargah City, Helmand province of Afghanistan.
Provincial governor's spokesman Omar Zwak says the blast was as a result of a car bombing, that was close to a police outpost in Lashkargah City. Exact number of of casualties not yet known.
Last month, a suicide attacker detonated a car full of explosives outside Afghanistan's top military training center in Kabul, killing at least 15 soldiers. That was the second terror attack in the capital in 24 hours after a suicide attack at a Shi'ite mosque killed more than 50 worshipers.
Residents of Lashkargah City, the center of Helmand province, are worried about their safety as clashes have intensified between government forces and Taliban militants in the outskirts of the city. The military operations in Nad Ali and the outskirts of Lashkargah City were launched on Wednesday. Taliban had captured Babaji area two years ago. Meanwhile, some parts of Nad Ali district have fallen to the Taliban over the last three years.
