2024 US Election | Kamala Harris Rallies Gen Z Voters In Wisconsin With Star-Studded Lineup

Vice President Kamala Harris made a powerful appeal to first-time and Gen Z voters during a get-out-the-vote rally in Madison, Wisconsin, on Wednesday.

Addressing a lively crowd, she stressed the high stakes of the upcoming election, with just six days to go.

"This is one of the most consequential elections of our lifetime," Harris warned, taking aim at her opponent, Donald Trump. She emphasized the dangers of a second Trump presidency, claiming he would enter office with an "enemies list" and promising to push forward policies that include tax cuts for small businesses and expanded healthcare for families caring for elderly relatives.

The event saw Harris reaffirm her support for abortion rights, promising to sign legislation protecting reproductive healthcare. Her stance earned prolonged applause from the crowd.

However, the rally faced interruptions from protesters chanting "Free Palestine" and waving banners. Harris acknowledged their concerns, stating, "We all want the war in Gaza to end and the hostages freed," but firmly added, "Right now, I am speaking."

Harris' campaign has heavily focused on Wisconsin, a critical swing state. Madison, in particular, has been a Democratic stronghold with high voter turnout. In the 2020 election, 89% of Dane County voters participated, and the campaign hopes for a similar turnout this year. Youth outreach has been central to the campaign's strategy, with seven full-time campus organizers hired to mobilize voters.

At the rally, University of Wisconsin student and first-time voter Ty Schanhofer introduced Harris, urging his peers to vote early. Harris praised Gen Z for their activism, stating, "I love your generation. You are rightly impatient for change."

The event featured performances by popular musicians like Gracie Abrams and folk-pop band Mumford & Sons, whose lead singer surprised many by revealing he had voted in California. Abrams' performance, in particular, was a hit with the largely youthful crowd, as she encouraged them to make their voices heard in the election.

Former Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes also addressed the audience, reflecting on the tight races in Wisconsin and urging voters to remain hopeful.

Celebrity endorsements have been a key feature of Harris' 2024 campaign. Last week, Beyoncé endorsed Harris in Texas, and Jennifer Lopez is expected to appear with her later this week. These high-profile endorsements are seen as a potential boost in the final days before the election.

Despite the excitement, some attendees expressed anxiety about the election outcome. Mary Ann Olson, a retired teacher, said she had been making calls for the Harris campaign and worried about the possibility of a Trump victory. "If she doesn't win, and I didn't do anything, I would hate myself," she said.

With the clock ticking, Harris' team hopes their efforts in Wisconsin will pay off, as the state's razor-thin margins could once again be decisive in this high-stakes election.
