Indore Wins India's Cleanest City Title For The Eighth Time

The Swachh Survekshan initiative continues to inspire cities across India to prioritise cleanliness and sustainability. Madhya Pradesh's capital, Indore, has once again clinched the title of India's cleanest city. It was the eighth consecutive time when Indore won the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 title.

President Droupadi Murmu awarded this honour during a ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on July 17. Indore's dedication to cleanliness and sustainable practices continues to set a national benchmark.

Indore's consistent top performance underscores its commitment to cleanliness through innovative waste management practices and active citizen participation.

Indore Wins India s Cleanest City Title

Surat and Navi Mumbai secured second and third places, respectively, in the central government's annual cleanliness survey. In the 3-10 lakh population category, Noida emerged as the cleanest city, followed by Chandigarh and Mysuru. The awards were presented by President Murmu in a ceremony attended by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal and other senior officials.

Swachh Survekshan 2024-25: A Record-Breaking Survey

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) organised this ninth edition of Swachh Survekshan, which has become the world's largest cleanliness survey. It assessed over 4,500 urban local bodies with more than 3,000 trained assessors conducting inspections over 45 days. This extensive survey covered every urban ward and engaged over 14 crore citizens.

This year's survey was guided by the theme "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle," focusing on sustainability and inclusive development. The framework included 10 key parameters and 54 performance indicators. For fair comparisons, cities were classified into five categories based on population size, ranging from small towns to million-plus cities.

Introducing the Super Swachh League

A total of 78 awards were distributed during the event, including those under the newly introduced "Super Swachh League" (SSL). This league recognises cities that consistently excel in urban cleanliness efforts. The introduction of SSL highlights the importance of maintaining high standards in sanitation across various urban areas.

The city's strong municipal governance plays a crucial role in its success as a model for urban hygiene and civic responsibility nationwide.
