In the era of social media, short videos have gained immense popularity. Each day, numerous social media users share videos on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. To attract more views and likes on their content, users often create videos based on various concepts. Some even jeopardize their lives in pursuit of increased views and approval.

It is not uncommon to come across videos in which users recklessly venture onto railway tracks to capture selfies or record videos. Shockingly, some engage in these activities while trains pass by. It is essential to recognize that taking selfies or making videos on railway tracks not only poses a grave risk to one's life but is also a criminal offense that can lead to imprisonment.

Under the Railway Act of 1989, specifically in Sections 145 and 147, capturing selfies or recording videos near railway tracks or platforms is strictly prohibited and carries legal consequences. Violating this law may result in a fine of Rs 1000 or a potential jail term of up to six months.

Indian Railways has consistently and strongly advised social media users against endangering their lives for a selfie on railway tracks, as it could very well be their last one. Even if they manage to avoid an approaching train, they may still face a six-month jail sentence.
