Youth Arrested After Video Of Him Voting 8 Times In UP Went Viral

A youth has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police after a video of him casting his vote to the BJP eight times went viral on social media.

The youth has been identified as Rajan Singh and arrested following complaints filed by several Congress and Samajwadi Party leaders. "FIR of the incident has been registered under sections 171-F and 419 of the IPC and sections 128, 132 and 136 of RP Act 951 in Nayagaon police station in Etah district," the UP CEO said in a post on X.

The footage surfaced from a village within the Farrukhabad Lok Sabha constituency, which is situated in the Etah district. Voting for the Farrukhabad seat occurred on May 13.

Rajan's father Anil Singh Thakur holds the position of gram pradhan in Khiri Pamaran and is affiliated with the BJP, according to a report in Scroll.

Responding to the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said, "Last evening, a video went viral which showed a youth casting his vote on an EVM multiple times...It was probed and it was found to be a video from Farrukhabad Lok Sabha constituency.

It is specifically from a village in Aliganj Assembly constituency that comes under Etah district...The youth was identified & FIR was registered under sections of Representation of People Act, IPC and Information Technology Act. He has been arrested...Suspension and departmental action on the polling party of that booth have been decided. Re-election has been recommended to the Election Commission..."

"If the Election Commission feels that this is wrong then it must take some action, otherwise... BJP's booth committee is actually a loot committee," SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav said in a post on X.
