Y S Sharmila Accuses Brother Jagan Mohan Reddy Of Corruption Linked To Adani Group

Y S Sharmila, president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), has criticised her brother, and former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. She accused him of giving control of Andhra Pradesh to Gautam Adani like a "blank cheque." Her comments followed allegations linked to a US indictment involving Adani.

Sharmila alleged that Jagan's corruption had reached international levels, tarnishing both the state and their family name. She claimed he accepted a bribe of Rs 1,750 crore from Adani. "He has handed over the interests of Andhra Pradesh and the people of Andhra Pradesh to Gautam Adani for a bribe," she stated.

Sharmila Accuses Jagan Of Corruption With Adani

Allegations and Indictment Details

The indictment mentions that Adani met with an unnamed high-ranking official in Andhra Pradesh to discuss power supply agreements. These meetings reportedly took place on August 7, September 12, and November 20 in 2021. The official served from May 2019 to June 2024, coinciding with Jagan's tenure as chief minister.

The Security Exchanges Commission filing also notes that Adani met with the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in August 2021. This aligns with Jagan Mohan Reddy's time in office. However, the indictment does not explicitly name him as "Foreign Official 1."

Demands for Action Against Adani Group

Sharmila urged that all power agreements involving the Adani Group be annulled. She insisted that the group should be blacklisted in Andhra Pradesh and existing deals reviewed and cancelled. "The Adani Group should be blacklisted in AP," she declared.

She further accused Jagan of transferring several projects to the Adani Group for bribes, including a stake in Gangavaram Port. According to her, these actions have brought disrepute to both India and Andhra Pradesh.

State Government's Response

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) responded by stating there was no direct agreement between Andhra Pradesh's power distribution companies and the Adani Group. They clarified that the state had an agreement with SECI for power procurement but not directly with any entities related to Adani.

The statement emphasised that allegations against the state government were unfounded given this context. "There is no direct agreement between AP power distribution companies and any other entities," it read.

Government Assurances

N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister and TDP leader, addressed these issues in the Legislative Assembly. He confirmed possession of indictment reports by the state government and promised action if any irregularities were discovered.

This situation continues to unfold as political tensions rise over these serious allegations involving prominent figures and companies within Andhra Pradesh.
