Women Employees of Delhi Transport Corporation Demand Equal Pay and Job Security in Protest

Female employees of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) organised a protest at the Sarojini Nagar depot on Sunday. They demanded equal pay, better working conditions, and permanent employment. Male colleagues also participated, highlighting widespread dissatisfaction among the workforce. The protest was led by women from the newly opened all-women Sakhi Depot, which is the first in India to be entirely managed and operated by women.

DTC Women Employees Demand Equal Pay

The employees expressed their grievances by reportedly preventing buses from departing the depot until their demands were addressed. Their requests included a fixed salary, permanent job opportunities, and improved working conditions. They also highlighted difficulties such as commuting long distances for early shifts and lack of job security.

Support from Male Colleagues

In a show of unity, several male DTC employees joined the protest. They held a meeting near the Sarojini Nagar depot to support calls for fair wages and job regularisation. The demonstration saw high-energy slogans as DTC staff from various depots across Delhi gathered in large numbers.

The Delhi government inaugurated the Sakhi Depot on Saturday. It plans to operate 70 buses, including 40 air-conditioned and 30 non-AC buses, covering 17 routes throughout the national capital.

This protest underscores the pressing issues faced by DTC employees. Their demands for fair treatment and job security reflect broader concerns within the workforce. The involvement of both male and female staff highlights a collective call for change in employment practices.
