Woman killed, son seriously injured in flame at fireworks unit
Howrah (WB), Sep 14: A woman was killed and her 20-something son received 80 per cent burns when fire broke out in a clandestine cracker unit at Bagnan in Howrah district tonight.
A senior police officer said police and fire brigade personnel with the help of locals brought out 60-year old Latika Jana and her son Bapi from the gutted house.

While Latika had already died, Bapi was admitted to local hospital with 80 per cent burn wounds, the officer said. Three fire tenders were pressed into service to contain the flames and prevent from spreading.
Besides crackers and banned chocolate bombs, the unit in Khalor hamlet under Bagnan police station limits used to make sparklers, flower pots but without permission.
