Who Will Be The New BJP President In Modi 3.0 Cabinet?

After serving as the national president of the BJP for over four years, JP Nadda has returned to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's council of ministers, taking oath as a Cabinet minister on Sunday. At 63 years old, Nadda is now the sole representative from Himachal Pradesh in the BJP-led government. His assigned ministry has not yet been disclosed. He previously served as the Union health minister in Modi's first term, from November 9, 2014, to May 30, 2019.

Nadda, a law graduate, began his political career with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He became the president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the BJP's youth wing, in 1991.

Throughout his tenure in the BJP, Nadda held various significant positions, overseeing the party's election campaigns in several states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Punjab. He also served as a minister in the BJP-led governments in Himachal Pradesh.

Elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2012, Nadda was appointed as a member of the BJP's parliamentary board in 2014 when Amit Shah assumed the role of party president.

Following the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Nadda was appointed as the BJP's working president, later assuming the position of BJP president in January 2020 after Shah was appointed as the Union home minister.

Nadda took over as BJP chief at a critical juncture, facing formidable challenges from a united opposition in assembly elections across several states. Despite the BJP's significant victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the party experienced setbacks in various assembly elections since 2018, with the exception of Haryana, where it formed a government in alliance with the Jannayak Janta Party.

Under Nadda's leadership, the BJP forged new alliances and achieved notable successes in various assembly elections. Despite occasional setbacks, the party under his leadership consolidated its strongholds and expanded its influence.

However, Nadda's elevation to the Union Cabinet leaves a vacancy in the position of BJP President. As per the party's constitution, the President is elected by its members.
